URL Reputation: Controlling Web Access with Granular Precision
URL Reputation is a cybersecurity technique used to evaluate websites based on the trustworthiness and categorize them accordingly. It classifies URLs into 82 categories, including:
- Social Media
- Malware/Phishing
- Shopping
- Gambling
- Streaming Media
- Offensive or Illegal Content
Using these categories, IT administrators can apply policies to allow, block, monitor, or throttle access based on business needs. For example, companies might block access to gambling and social media during work hours to boost productivity while simultaneously protecting users from malicious websites.
When a user attempts to access a website, the Vigor router queries the URL reputation server to determine the site's category and reputation score. If the site is classified as inappropriate or potentially harmful, the router blocks the connection and displays a customizable warning page to the user.

Every communication over the internet involves IP addresses-source and destination. Cybercriminals often leverage known malicious IP addresses to carry out attacks using techniques like:

*IP Reputation is currently supported on Vigor2136 series, Vigor C410 series, Vigor C510 series. Vigor2865 series and Vigor2927 series will be supported in the future once the firmware is ready.
